Crashing

Unseen (by my eyes) Debbie photo.
How cute are these Russian dolls? The black one is by Dolce and Gabbana and the white one is by Moschino. A far cry from your flea market Russian dolls -- but those are just as charming as well.

Älska

When I was in Sweden last summer for three months, I fell in love. Fashion forward, simple, yet original, and alluring, my love was.
Weekday is its name; including two store labels; MTWTF and Sunday Sun. The clothing is surprisingly affordable (for the most part).
I still wear the clothes I bought there on a regular basis.
Weekday is where Cheap Monday originated and where groundbreaking Swedish designers collaborate with the store's lines. MiniMarket, Carin Wester, and Rodebjer are regular collaborators.
Sadly, Weekday only exists in Sweden (Stockholm, Malmo, Gothenburg, Uppsala) and Denmark (Copenhagen). Here in California, I sit and wish I could just go back to Sweden or Denmark to shop at Weekday...but sit I must, until I have enough money to visit my love once more (and to see my friend Ana).

One More Time

I've always loved the simplicity of one shoulder dresses...and AA (of course, ugh) has made one. The old Moss photo is an inspiring look -- culry hair, that Helmut Lang dress, a Grecian air.

Divine Inspiration

"Call Her Savage": the tragic and beautiful, Clara Bow. She lived through a harrowing childhood and was understandably mentally unstable near the end of her life. Miss Bow, the epitome of 1920s style and beauty. I wish I could go back in time and live the roaring twenties just for week.
Apparently I've seen too many time machine themed movies. Although, according to physics, there is a definite possibility of a sort of time travel on earth or elsewhere. Something to chew on.

Style Cometh

Jen Brill is worshiped as a style vixen and is worthy of the praise. She is always dressed in the top designer clothes to a whimsical sexy tee. I wonder if Jen is given these fabulous clothes, shoes, and bags, or buys them out of pocket. I am guessing she is from a well to do New York family, to afford such luxuries. I still can't figure out exactly what she does...other than Terry Richardson.
And check out artist Terrence Koh's (first photo) ensemble. White hot, shiny, silky, sexy.
A bit about Koh, if you don't know: "he has gold-plated and sold his own feces for $500,000.00 to collectors." Genius.
I am aware this is old news, but if you haven't heard it, I must mention it.

What's The Pointe?

I have a weakness for nearly all Costume National shoes. The color catches me on these wedges.

I have been getting back to ballet and en pointe (now I really feel old -- in pain and ballet step memory loss) and these Acne "Position" flats caught my eye. Thoughts?
I think they're a little strange -- either you dance on real pointe shoes on stage or in class...not on the street where they look out of place. I like the concept of pointe shoes on the street, but I don't think it translates well in reality. Repetto has some similar flats to these, which I think are more wearable, maybe because they are a dance manufacturer.

Double Your Zippers, Double Your Fun

The zipper skirt of Fall has been doubled. Sophomore NYC s/s 09 line. Photos from San Francisco's Acrimony.

French Kiss

I loooove French macarons and ones like in Paris are hard to find in the U.S. Thus, I have begun a macaron search in the Bay Area.
I have found that Bay Breads on Filmore in San Francisco is overrated, but maybe I just got there too late in the day; Miette bakery in the Ferry building has scrumptious macarons (except for the grapefruit flavor...not good, not grapefruity at all) without the color (saddening), and Masse's in Berkeley's Gourmet Ghetto has excellent colored (yes!) macarons in chocolate, lemon, strawberry, and pistachio. Masse's also has amazing fruit mousse and is not snooty or trendy place.

The above photo is faux Pierre Hermé macaron trinkets that came with Japanese Lipton iced "tea". Why does this stuff not exist here? I don't think I could keep one of those fake macarons with me without being tempted to eat it...forgetting that it is painted plastic.Real macarons above

Infamous

"Wild" Pierre Hardy heels on sale a couple months ago at Barney's, but still not affordable for most/me...long ties above the ankle get me.

Leigh Lezark

Ex-MisShapes DJ Miss Lezark has got style. I can't say I've always admired her style or attitude wise...not that I know her or have even met her -- just not into flocks of sceney hipsters...but I have a new appreciation for her now.
I am all for more female DJs in this country. Girls, if you love music and wanna DJ, get into it, because more estrogen is needed in the DJ world...other than in lesbian clubs (not trying to hate, OK; although, it's the case here in the Bay Area).

I'm watching a documentary on composer Phillip Glass that is pretty cool if you like Phillip Glass or want to see how a mad composer works -- and if you don't know his work, just search it and listen to the pure genius, you should not be disappointed.

Hello Jeffery

Love these Jeffery Campbell shoes and all of his stuff is reasonably priced (under 200 bucks). I still want some flat lace-up boots -- hopefully these black boots from Oak NYC will stay in stock in my tiny size until I come out of brokedom.

"Age is opportunity no less
Than youth itself, though in another dress,
And as the evening twilight fades away
The sky is filled with stars, invisible by day."

Watching, Waiting, Wanting

Paris Vogue April 2004: Laetitia Casta photographed by Terry Richardson. I really love the whole voyeuristic feel of these photos; so appropriate to travel and Terry Richardson (spying on a pretty girl). I'm also feeling the 90s-esque casual outfits. It's all so understated, yet glamorous. Laetitia also just announced to French presses this week that she is pregnant with her third child.
